Standing in the Suppliers Shoes: It’s All About Communication

communicationAN INTERVIEW WITH URSULA ANTOINETTE GUDERIAN FROM DRAKE.

Drake Environmental Management is based out of Northern California. Drake has numerous contracts with companies anywhere from PG&E to Western Area Power Authority and the City of Redding. Drake’s 25 employees inspect, maintain and control vegetation around power poles and water lines, maintain right-of-ways for utilities, municipalities and private customers. The company has served PG&E for more than 12 years.

WHAT’S AN IDEAL CUSTOMER FOR YOU?

Ursula: “An ideal customer for us is one where we have good communication. As long as we’re all on the same page, everybody’s happy. Taulia has helped to streamline that because it’s very black and white. What you see is what it is and you don’t deviate from that. So I think that that makes the the whole process go a lot smoother. There are no hitches in communication.”

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING A VENDOR PORTAL FROM YOUR PERSPECTIVE?

Ursula: “Taulia is the first vendor portal we used and I was really excited when PG&E presented it to us. It’s the one and only vendor portal we’re using. With everyone else, it’s the old-fashioned way. Up until the Taulia program we were just creating invoices and submitting them. The reason why I like Taulia so much is because it’s live. I mean, you just plunk it in there and the customer – the company that you’re contracted with – you use an invoice and they get right back with you, and it seems more streamlined. And, it cuts the approval and payment time in half. It’s a big bonus.”

“Without the visibility we have with Taulia, we have to schedule monies coming in and monies going out- I mean, we budget our time accordingly so we don’t have problems with that here, but it’s still much better knowing. I could see other companies potentially having problems with having a hold up on pay. We would love to use it with our other customers. It would be nice if Western Area Power Authority would be on board with Taulia.”

WHAT CAN WE DO TO MAKE TAULIA BETTER?

Ursula: There is no way to make the Taulia system better, from my perspective. It’s so streamlined- I don’t think there’s anything that could be easier.
